The MD-606T XM Radio is a product that is designed with the same purist philosophy as any Magnum Dynalab
source device, yet versatile enough to be included in virtually any fine audio or home
automation
system. With an XM radio module providing access to over 170 XM Radio channels in the US and over 100
channels in Canada, a Triode audio output board that is as dynamic as it is transparent, plus the
capability to provide fast feedback through virtually any device able to output RS232 commands, it is a
perfect combination of function and audio entertainment.
Critically important to any
high-performance, digitally-driven audio product continues to be the capturing, rendering and control of
the digital media. And in today's world of quickly evolving digital sources, this challenge has never been
more important. However, of equal importance is the design and attention to detail of the analog signal
path following the conversion from its digital source. Our purist philosophy and devoted attention to
detail as it relates to the analog signal path is what distinguishes a Magnum Dynalab product, providing a
sound experience that extends beyond the functional benefits of the originating digital source. The MD 606T
XM Radio is a product for music lovers ... for those that appreciate the full and rich tonal diversity that
comes from a truly high-performance audio source component.
The MD 606T XM Radio is also equipped
with a RS232 port that allows control of the Tuner from a variety of devices including Whole-House A/V
Distribution and Home Automation Systems, or just about any hard-wired device capable of outputting RS232
commands. All relevant protocols are available in our MD 609T/MD 606T XM Radio Installation Guide.
With 20 XM presets, the ability to browse by both station and genre, and a 4.2" blue LCD display
featuring all relevant metadata including channel, category, artist and track, the MD 606T XM Radio is as
functional at it is melodic. Similar to the MD 609T XM Radio, the product's stately symmetry is
characteristic of many Magnum Dynalab products, with a large machined button used for power on/off, plus
tactile buttons for menu, select, station up/down and category up/down. All functions are also controlled
by way of a handsome IR remote.
Our design team has created the audio stage, DAC and power supply of
the MD 606T XM Radio with the same purist philosophy as all of our products. That is, treatment of the
audio path in such a way to preserve the integrity of the original signal, ensuring that all the
micro-information is maintained throughout the circuit, showcasing the precision with which the music was
originally recorded.
The MD 606T's triode design is first and foremost characterized by its notable
transparency, achieved in part via a unique linear power supply utilizing a special circuit path and custom
designed Toroidal transformer. The specially designed circuit eliminates all stray ground path signals,
transients and high frequency noises from the audio feed.
The clean source of DC power allows the
distinctive audio stage and DAC of the MD 606T XM Radio to perform at its best. The design employs 2 6922
Magnum Dynalab vacuum tubes, a collection of components from Mundorf, WBT, Burr Brown and Wima, and strict
manufacturing guidelines to ensure that the product's specifications are met on a consistent basis. And
with a .093 thick printed circuit board and gold plated contacts throughout the device, you can be sure
that the equipment has the foundation required to operate at its finest.
Finally, the depth and
clarity of the acoustics heard from the MD 606T XM Radio could not be achieved without the zero feedback
design, created to avoid an alteration of the original wave form. The result is a device with impressive
specifications: signal to noise ratio greater than 95dB, frequency response from 10Hz to 100KHz, and zero
distortion variance from .2 Hz to 200KHz.
Finally, we have taken special care to design the MD 606T
XM Radio to be upgradeable in a variety of ways. Not only do customers have the option to upgrade the audio
stage of the product either now or later, but the digital front-end of the unit can be changed according to
future developments in Satellite Radio technology. That is, should there be changes to the source feed of
Satellite radio, we at Magnum Dynalab are committed to providing those upgrade options to all customers.
With access to over 170 channels in the USA, and up to 100 channels in Canada, XM Radio provides a
wealth of listening options. Broadcasted in the S band using the frequencies ranging from 2332.5 to 2345.0
MHz, XM radio employs 3 satellites hovering in geostationary orbit plus a network of ground-based
repeaters. Coverage includes all of continental US, the southern tip of Alaska, all of Southern Canada,
plus many of the Caribbean Islands and most of Mexico.
